Side Effects and Allergies to Covid-19 Vaccine
The vaccine for Covid-19 is occupying thoughts of the whole world as we try to reemerge from the pandemic. The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine and the Moderna vaccine contain mRNA, a protein which normally takes messages from the nucleus to the cell to produce protein and help the cell function. These mRNA proteins are directed against the spike protein of the coronavirus. Currently, it has a 95 percent effectiveness against Covid-19. That means that in phase 3 trials, out of approximately 16,800 subjects who did receive the vaccine only 4 had cases of coronavirus infection. The placebo group had 169 people who were infected with corona virus of approximately 16,800 subjects who received the placebo shot.
The main side effects of the vaccine are soreness at the sight of the shot which usually lasts for one day. Fever may appear for one day with the second shot. There have been aproximately five cases of Bellβs palsy and 26 case of anlhylaxis to the vaccine. The main predisposing risk for allergic reaction is if patients have had allergy to other vaccines. Hopefully, 75 percent of people can return to having vaccinations so that we can control this pandemic. We may ultimately approach the death rate of the flu with this pandemic if everyone is vaccinated .
