COVID-19 and Effective Testing

COVID-19 antibody tests have many controversies involved. There is as many as 8 different companies approved for antibody testing. The FDA has now narrowed down the list to 4. There is a 50% false positive rate indicating whether patient with positive test has the immunity or not. Coronavirus symptoms can mimic asthma, shortness of breath, fever, infectious diarrhea, and neurological symptoms. 40% of all COVID patients do not have fever.

I would recommend the diagnosis of COVID-19 of a positive PCR test in the presence of clinical symptoms. However, lack of symptoms do not rule out COVID-19. Patients must be followed by one physician serially over a week or 2 to fully confirm diagnosis.
