Health Benefits of Chili Peppers
AOL News has an article about a recent study on chili peppers and capsaicin published in Cell Metabolism journal. The findings of the study are that long-term consumption of chili peppers may lead to reduced blood pressure. In addition to the findings of the study the article mentions that chili peppers have been considered a potential relief for chronic sinus infection. It has also been linked by some to other health benefits, like weight loss and pain relief. The health benefits described have been specifically linked to a chemical in chili peppers, the very chemical that makes them spicy, capsaicin. While a chili pepper a day is unlikely to keep sinusitis away, it's not unreasonable to think that it may help relieve some symptoms. Most who have tried or enjoy chili peppers have experienced the "burned out" feeling in their nose. This feeling may be coupled with reduced inflammation of the sinuses and increased drainage, providing some relief for sinusitis symptoms. It won't cure the infection but it may make it a little more bearable.Γ If you have questions about chronic sinusitis and its treatment, contact our office to set an appointment.
