Headaches and Sinusitis
The British Columbia Local News has a very informative piece on headaches. It covers the various types and causes of headaches from migraines and cluster headaches to tension headaches and sinus headaches. While tension headaches are considered among the most common, also common are sinus headaches. Inflammation and irritation of the sinuses causes pain, typically in the face and behind the eyes.Sinus headaches are often a symptom of sinusitis. When couples with nasal congestion and a runny nose a sinus headache likely indicates a sinus infection. Sinus infections are caused by bacteria, viruses, or physical obstructions that cause the lining of the sinuses to become inflamed and obstructs the flow of mucous. Sinus infections are treated based on their cause often antihistamines or decongestants are used. In the case of bacterial sinus infection antibiotics are often used.
