Chronic Cough

UPI has an article about a recent study on acid reflux, commonly known as heartburn, and its link to chronic coughs. The study used a new sound recording technique to gather data on the connection between cough and reflux. Chronic cough is a common complaint defined as a cough lasting 8 or more weeks. Acid reflux has been linked to chronic cough as have asthma and sinusitis.Chronic cough is a symptom of other illnesses affecting theΓ‚ esophagus. Irritation caused by acid, mucous, bacteria, or other irritants causes the cough reaction. When a cough persists it is the result of a persistent condition. Sinusitis and asthma are very often linked to chronic cough. These conditions aren't alleviated by treating the cough, they need to be diagnosed and treated directly. If you've been suffering from a cough that has continued for at least 8 weeks, it may be a sign of a more serious condition.
